Grace Will Match It

2 Corinthians 12:9
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.’”

Paul was suffering. And it wouldn’t go away. We all know the stories of the God who shuts the lions’ mouths and opens the Red Sea, but what about when the suffering doesn’t go away?

Grace will match it.

That’s the promise. You will never go through anything that will be too much for the grace of God.

Remember Paul and Silas in prison? They sang in the middle of the night. Yet they weren’t free until the miraculous deliverance in the morning. What does this tell us? This—the prison was out of them before they were out of the prison.

His grace was enough. His power matched it.

What does this look like?

Not entirely sure, but certainly it means divine strength, the power to persevere—to outlast the trial. It means our faith not failing, but being sustained by the power of God. It means the promises of God becoming more real, more certain. It means grace to trust. It means finding the unmatched value of your salvation in Jesus Christ. You see its beauty.

Let’s not be like little children who always demand to get what they want. Psalm 103:7 says, “He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel” (ESV). The NLT says it this way: “He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel.”

It’s a great thing when God acts on our behalf and works miracles. But Moses knew God’s ways. He knew God’s character.

Grace works this way sometimes. Our trials lead us to the source of the river and we see the King. You don’t always see His external acts, but He is showing us His ways; His character. And sometimes that means we simply cherish Him, and wait. Elisabeth Elliot said, “Sometimes you don’t know that Jesus is all you need until Jesus is all you have.”

Rest in your salvation today. His grace is enough.
